“War 2” is an Indian action thriller that came out in 2025 and is the second movie in the “War” series. Hrithik Roshan and N. T. Rama Rao Jr. play top secret agents who are on a dangerous mission to stop a rogue agent and a secret crime group. The movie has a lot of action, a plot that takes place all over the world, and it looks at themes of brotherhood and betrayal in the world of spies. Even though people had high hopes for it, it got mixed reviews when it came out.
What Fans didn’t like in War 2
Critics have called out a number of specific scenes in “War 2” as major failures, pointing out things like bad execution, weak writing, and awkward effects:
- Japan Fight Scene: Critics say the Japan fight scene was “painfully awkward” and full of fake CGI. They say it felt like a clumsy tribute to other movies, especially Tarantino’s “Kill Bill,” but the choreography was bad, with background extras moving in a way that didn’t feel real and the fight lacking energy and authenticity.
- Train Sequence: This well-known action scene was called unrealistic because the stunts and effects were so over-the-top that they took viewers out of the moment. Critics laughed at the main character’s unbelievable feats, saying that they made the movie feel more like a “college production” than a big hit.
- Deceased Body and iPad Scene: The “affront to the audience’s intelligence and to the grief of a daughter” scene with the dead body and the iPad was a key moment that showed emotional insensitivity and bad writing in what should have been a touching moment.
- Costume Choices: People criticized Kiara Advani’s military roles for wearing clothes that weren’t realistic, like gala-style clothes in action and military scenes. This made the scenes less believable and less immersive.
- B2 Bomber Action Scene: This aerial action scene was also widely panned. Fans called it the “worst” in the movie because of its cringeworthy choreography and poor execution.
- Forced Dance Number: Critics pointed out a dance scene that didn’t fit in with the story and quickly threw it off track, making it less interesting and losing its pace just before the break.
- Villain Group “Kali”: The writing and development of the villainous group were so bad that the characters and story were hard to believe.
In general, critics say that these scenes hurt the movie’s impact by using impossible stunts, bad story choices, and inconsistent production values. This is why “War 2” was called a disaster by both critics and audiences.
War 2 has done well at the box office, but not all of it has been good.
- Day 1 (August 14, 2025): The movie made about ₹51.5 crore net in India, with ₹29 crore coming from the Hindi version and ₹22.5 crore coming from the Telugu version. The worldwide gross on day 1 was about ₹80–82 crore.
- Day 2 (August 15, 2025): The estimated net for the second day is ₹51.33 crore, which brings the total for India over two days to ₹102.83 crore. By 8 PM on Independence Day, the total had gone over ₹100 crore.
- Worldwide: Around ₹80–90 crore was made on opening day around the world, with India making the most money and overseas collections between ₹18–25 crore.
Even though these numbers are big, “War 2” was seen as disappointing because of its star power and budget. It made less money on its opening day than both “Pathaan” and the first “War” movie. Because it costs ₹325 crore to make, trade experts say it needs to make about ₹650 crore in India to be considered a box office hit.
Details Table
Day | India Net (₹ crore) | Worldwide Gross (₹ crore) |
---|---|---|
Day 1 | 51.5 | 80–82 |
Day 2 | 51.33 | 100+ (cumulative) |
2-Day Total | 102.83 | 100+ |
While “War 2” beat several recent releases, competition from “Coolie” and film expectations resulted in its box office being labeled both “strong” and “disappointing” relative to its scale.
